I Am Not Alone

HA!...I hate flat-pack furniture....I really hate it...all those wooden dowels...color coded stickers on each section...drives me up the damn wall...but, it looks like I am no longer alone in the wilderness....THESE GUYS have a most excellent idea...eheheheh...

A college has launched a do-it-yourself course which aims to take the frustration out of flat-pack furniture.

The three-hour course will guide students through Ikea instructions and give some method to MFI madness.

DIYers will be shown the finer points of joining bracket A to shelf B and will even be able to use the expert advice of teacher John Tilley on their own pieces of furniture.

The free course is one of Northampton College's Bite Size range, one of a range of ideas aimed at getting adults back into education by demonstrating that learning can be fun.

Comments so far:

I've never had the pleasure of seeing color-coded stickers.

My favorite pet peeve is the little baggy of screws, bolts, nuts, and washers, none of which are correctly identified by an actual size picture in the directions.

Yes, I do read the instructions, first. Then look at the parts to figure out what the instructions were really talking about.

I've been trying to figure out how to put together a cast-iron bistro chair and table set for my lanai for months (well, I think about trying again maybe once per week).

No pictures of the three funny looking bolt/screws for each chair. These three thingys have slots like a screw, but no head on them. I've actually never seen anything like them, before. No pictures of anything but the finished product. One of these days... I'll buy a faux resin set, already formed in one piece and put these cast-iron pieces and boxes in a garage sale.

This is truly the first time I haven't been able to get something together, no matter how bad the instructions. I hate having to admit to failure, especially for the first time. Maybe I'll drag every thing out and try, again. No, not tonight, there's something else that I'm too busy not doing tonight!

Eric, when I posted the above comment, I received an error message. But, when I refreshed you blog page, the comment had taken. This with the couple of times my computer "froze" when you were under construction, leads me to believe that it's not my computer, it's your site. Good luck.

Ms. Anna, were you on the main site, or the "view old format" site?

Yeah...I've always wondered what the hell Chandler and Joey were supposed to be building when they helped Ross set up his 'new apartment' lo those many seasons ago. It was when Ross still had Marcel...(Marcel kept playing "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" in that same apartment.) It may well have been the first episode because it's the one where Rachael shows up wet in a wedding dress...anyhow, the two boneheads go to help Ross put his stuff together and they build this...this...thing, that they call a bookcase. I've always wondered about that....lol.

And, fer the love of God...isn't a 'lanai' a freakin' porch or a balcony? (I'm a 40 year old Redneck broad who doesn't get the need for these new words when the old ones still work just fine....)
