....I've seen these things going around lately... first music.... etc... hey, we're all kinds'a'down with that here at SWG.... I remember my first music purchase vividly.... I went to the local K-mart, and purchased two tapes with my OWN money... what did I choose?...
...ZZ Top - Eliminator.... a classic of gigantic proportions....
..and...
...Prince - 1999.... hey, I was 12, gimme a damn break....sheesh... and, if it is any consolation, I still have that ZZ Top tape...
First 3 cassettes:
Men at Work: Cargo
Duran Duran: Rio
Michael Jackson: Thriller
Nothing wrong with Prince. You may not dig the funk but there is no denying the little purple guy can burn on the gee-tar. I saw the Purple Rain tour and the extended solo he played on 'Purple Rain' was as good as any I have ever heard.

posted by: kilabe on March 27, 2004 03:13 PMWell, I was (and still am) a girl... so my first purchases were all the ultimate in 80's cheese....
Duran Duran - Rio
Culture Club - Kissing to be Clever
Thompson Twins - Into the Gap
I recall getting them at Tower Records in El Toro, CA (might be considered Laguna Hills now). The year was 1983, I was 11, and I bought them all on (gasp!) VINYL.
I did actually replace the Duran Duran album - twice... once on cassette, and now I own it on CD. Yes, 20 years later, my collection is still riddled with the afore-mentioned 80's cheese.
